The celebration of Pokémon’s 25th anniversary has begun, with the Pokémon Company sharing new information on the franchise in a livestream event on Friday morning.
The 20-minute video’s major announcement was Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a return to the Sinnoh region but this time during the era of feudal Japan, coming in early 2022. The game will feature an open-world setting and seamless interaction with wild Pokémon, for example throwing Poké Balls to catch wild monsters in real time, in addition to the traditional turn-based style. Also revealed were Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, full remakes of the Nintendo DS’s Diamond and Pearl, due at the end of 2021.
The presentation also provided updates for New Pokémon Snap, including a deep dive into gameplay and a look at the desert and sea regions, as well as Pokémon 25-themed events in multiple Pokémon games.
